What to bring

Whether you’re planning your rustic excursion in the company of a guide or on your own, take care to pack a few basic items, including:

  • Rain gear, a wind breaker and a fleece jacket
  • Spare warm and quick-dry clothing
  • A warm sleeping bag
  • Toiletries (odourless and biodegradable)
  • Tuque and mittens

To help you with your preparations, a complete list of required equipment is contained in the expedition planning guide for the park.

Since some activities (like mountaineering, as well as whitewater canoeing, kayaking and rafting) require specialized equipment, you should arrive in the North with everything you’ll need. It can prove difficult to top up your supplies at local stores, since product selection is limited. Ask for details.

If not accompanied by a guide, visitors are required to possess maps, orienteering tools and localization equipment (GPS, compass and SPOT messaging device), as well as appropriate safety equipment (a first-aid and survival kit, as well as animal deterrents). A satellite telephone may also prove extremely useful.

Other Considerations

Anyone wishing to practise sport fishing in the park must possess a provincial permit and authorization to fish in the park. A landholding corporation permit is moreover required for fishing on category II lands.

It is recommended that water be treated or boiled before consumption.

Open fires are prohibited. A camping burner is therefore strongly recommended.
