How to get there

From Montreal to Kuujjuaq

Situated on the Rivière Koksoak, Kuujjuaq (meaning the great river in Inuktitut) is the largest community in Nunavik and an important administrative centre. The community has an airport, two hotels, two restaurants, two general stores and a bank.

The airline companies First Air and Air Inuit offer scheduled flights to the community from Montreal, Quebec City and Ottawa.

From Kuujjuaq to Kangiqsualujjuaq

Kangiqsualujjuaq is nestled next to the Rivière George, only 15 km from Ungava Bay. This community, which has a population of a little over 700, is welcoming and offers a remarkable cultural experience. The visitor and interpretation centre for Parc national Kuururjuaq is located in the community. The airline company Air Inuit offers scheduled flights to Kangiqsualujjuaq from Kuujjuaq.

If you decide to arrange your own charter flight from Kuujjuaq to the park, allow adequate time in your planning to attend a mandatory information and orientation session in Kangiqsualujjuaq before entry into the park.

In Summer:

Access to the park is mainly gained by charter flight from Kuujjuaq (by Twin Otter or helicpoter). The park possesses two landing strips: one in the Mont D’Iberville sector and a second in the Chutes Korluktok sector. You may either arrange a private charter flight for your group or reserve a seat on one of the scheduled flights to Parc national Kuururjuaq during the 2013 season.

Example: It is possible to reserve a seat on the flight to the park on June 22 and from the park on July 6.

Itinerary

Passengers from Kuujjuaq should check in at the Air Inuit counter three hours prior to departure.

Passengers arriving from Quebec City or Montreal should check in at the Air Inuit counter on arrival in Kuujjuaq.

Landing strips in Parc national Kuururjuaq: Mont D’Iberville sector (58°46’20.0” N, 63°35’11.2” W); Chutes Korluktok sector (58°36’35.0” N, 64°33’28.8” W).

The prices indicated are only for return flights to and from Parc national Kuururjuaq. Travellers must supply their own expedition equipment and food. Anyone who enters a park or stays, travels or engages in an activity in a park must be authorized to do so by the park’s management.

Reservations for self-guided expeditions in Parc national Kuururjuaq must be made at least six weeks in advance. Please read carefully the expedition planning guide.

Park authorizations shall be issued on receipt of a duly completed registration form and the payment of all applicable fees.
